5 Cinco de Mayo Inspired Drinks

Cinco de Mayo is the beloved Mexican food and cocktail holiday where all day is a good day for a drink. Add a little something extra to your day with these Cinco de Mayo-inspired drinks.

Best served with a side of a morning sunrise, this drink gets the day started off right.

-4 cups seeded watermelon
-1/2 cup water
-1/4 cup cane sugar
-1 lime quartered into slices
-3/4 cup mint leaves
-Ice

Blend the water and watermelon in a blender. Add sugar (up to 1/4 cup) to taste. Place one slice of lime and 3-4 mint leaves into a glass. Muddle and smash the lime and mint for 10-20 seconds. Place ice in a glass and pour the watermelon mixture on top. Serve and enjoy.

Toronha
Toronha derives from the Spanish word for “grapefruit”. This blended cocktail cools and is best served with some spicy Mexican food.

-2 oz. tequila
-2 oz. grapefruit juice
-1 tbsp. grenadine
-1/2 oz. triple sec
-3/4 cup ice

Take these ingredients and toss them in a blender.

Instead of the traditional blended beverage, try a lighter, more flavorful margarita.

-2 oz. orange juice (or tangerine juice)
-1 oz. lime juice
-5 mint leaves
-2 oz. tequila
-1 oz. sparkling water

In a cocktail shaker, add mint, lime juice and orange juice. Muddle ingredients together. Add ice and tequila. Shake until the liquids combine. Pour into a glass and top with sparkling water.

Pineapple Mojito
Minty mojitos are the idyllic beach cocktail. Chill out this fruit-infused mojito on this fine day.

-6 mint leaves
-1 tbsp. sugar
-1/2 lime cut in half
-2 tbsp. pineapple juice
-1/4 cup rum
-1/4 cup club soda

Divide mint, sugar and lime into two glasses. Muddle the ingredients. Place liquids in a glass and mix with a spoon. Add ice to the glasses. Pour the mixture evenly into both glasses and serve.

Margaritas are a Cinco de Mayo staple drink. This limeade margarita pairs perfectly with salty tortilla chips and zesty guacamole.

-1/2 cup tequila
– 3 tbsp. triple sec
-1/2 tbsp. agave nectar
-1/4 tsp. salt
-6 oz. (half can) frozen limeade
-3 cups ice

Combine ingredients in a blend and puree until smooth. Rim glasses with salt and pour mixture into the glasses. Serves 3-4 glasses.
