Best Movies to Get Beach Bums Through the Winter
If the winter blues are getting you down grab a bag of popcorn, sit back and throw in one of these movies that’ll help you get ready for your next summer beach adventure.
Blue CrushIt might not be winning any Oscars anytime soon, but Blue Crush has a little bit of something for everyone. It’s a surfer movie focusing on women for a change and, to be honest, it’s pretty much a chick flick on waves. The plot revolves around a competitive surfer falling in love with a football player. At least the eye candy will keep the fellas happy.
Soul SurferSoul Surfer seems like something straight out of the Disney Channel, but it’s actually the true story of inspirational surfer Bethany Hamilton. Hamilton lost her arm to a shark while surfing in Hawaii and the movie revolves around her struggle to find her way back to the waves—with the help of the soulful sounds of Carrie Underwood.
The BeachThe Beach is based off of the novel by the same name and follows wayward traveler Leonardo DiCaprio as he searches for a mythical island paradise with an unlimited supply of marijuana. Once he finds it, it turns out to be anything but what he expected. The Beach is a thriller set in one of the most beautiful places on Earth and will having you craving a summer getaway – just without the psycho murderers.
Forgetting Sarah MarshallWho doesn’t love Forgetting Sarah Marshall? It tells the story of what is pretty much every guy’s worst nightmare. After getting dumped by his ridiculously hot girlfriend a guy (Jason Segel) takes a vacation to help him move on, only to run face first into his ex and her new man. It’s all good, though, because Mila Kunis is there to help him forget about that.
JawsHow can you have a list of beach movies without Jaws? If you’ve somehow made it through life without viewing this classic, take the chance to catch up with the rest of us before summer. Jaws is the epic tale about a giant shark that goes on a rampage off the coast of New England. When it first came out it caused thousands of people to forgo the beach ever again. Hopefully it won’t have the same effect on you.
Y Tu Mama TambienY Tu Mama Tambien is a classic coming-of-age story about two teenage boys who end up on a road trip with a hot older woman. Once you get over the fact that they lie to her about the trip just to get laid, it’s kind of a sweet story of self-discovery and growing up. It’s a little heavy on the sexual innuendo, so not one for the kiddos.
50 First DatesNo beach movie list is complete, in our opinion, without 50 First Dates. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore team up for a goofy story about a guy who spends every day trying to woo a girl who has no long-term memory. It takes places against a beautiful backdrop in Hawaii and, on top of being funny, is a feel-good story for the whole family. When these two team up it’s always comedy gold.
