Our Favorite Weekend Beach Getaways to Sneak in Before School Starts

The start of the school year is approaching, but summer isn’t over just yet! There’s still time to sneak in some last minute beach getaways before it’s time to hit the books. Here are some of our favorite locations for an unforgettable weekend escape.

Siesta Key Beach, FL

Florida’s Siesta Key Beach is something out of a dream. With some of the finest sand you’ll ever come across and a long stretch of unobstructed coastline, this beach is the ideal setting for a day spent by the water with friends and family. And when the sun goes down, you can enjoy watching some of summer’s final sunsets reflect over the bright white sand.

Myrtle Beach, SC

Sometimes referred to by locals as “The Beach”, Myrtle Beach is the perfect combination of fun and relaxation. 60 miles of coastline and turquoise waters mean you’ll have no trouble soaking up the sun all day (just don’t forget to wear your sunscreen!). Want something a little more fast-paced? Head over to the oceanfront water park or sign up for a professional dolphin jet ski tour.

Cape May, NJ

Home to the nation’s oldest seaside resort, Cape May is perfect for anyone that wants that classic, East Coast beach experience. Along the 2.5 mile stretch of beaches, you can do anything from fishing to kayaking in the warm atlantic waters. If you want to check out the local town, you might take a relaxing walk along the Cape May Promenade, which offers stunning views of both the beach and the historic architecture.

Oval Beach, MI

Though Oval Beach Park is open year-round, you don’t want to miss out on visiting before summer ends. Named after the area’s distinct arc shape, Oval Beach is the perfect location for a beach getaway with its clear fresh waters, numerous picnic areas, and stunning natural terrain.

Indiana Dunes State Park, IN

If you really need a place to stretch out and escape from daily life, Indiana Dunes State Park is the place to be. With 2,000 acres of explorable land and a 15 mile long coastline, there’s chances for both adventure and relaxation everywhere you turn. Whether you conquer the towering dunes or spend the day with your toes in the water, you’ll go into the new school year feeling refreshed and recharged.

Pacific Beach, CA

Located in sunny San Diego, Pacific Beach is the ideal beach destination for young adults looking to squeeze in as much fun as possible before the summer ends. The wide, flat beach is great for playing sports with a group of friends before heading over to the boardwalk to check out the bars, shops, and restaurants. But Pacific Beach isn’t just for twenty-somethings. Head a bit North to find more family-friendly, but just as beautiful, beaches.

South Padre Island, TX

Everything’s better on island time. From surfing to deep-sea fishing and wildlife viewing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on South Padre Island. And after a long day of sunshine and adventure along the Gulf Coast, there’s an abundance of local restaurants ready to satisfy cravings for fresh seafood.
