HOW TO USE IT
Step 1: Select Your Formula

To ensure you apply your sunscreen effectively, first consider what type of activities you’ll be engaging in while outside. For those planning to spend extended periods in the water or playing sports, water resistant sunscreen offers an added layer of security, so your skin remains protected even during high-intensity activities or immersion in water for 80 minutes.

Also, consider whether you prefer a mineral or traditional sunscreen. Mineral sunscreens contain active minerals such as zinc oxide that sit on the skin to reflect and absorb UV rays. Traditional sunscreens, on the other hand, penetrate the skin and absorb UV radiation, converting it into heat and releasing it from the body.

Those with sensitive skin, eczema, or chronic acne often favor mineral sunscreens, but both are safe and reliable. Choose according to your preferences. After all, the most effective sunscreen is one you’ll actually use!

Step 2: Follow Application Guidelines

No matter which formula or level of protection you choose, proper application is key to making sure your sunscreen is effective. First, make sure you’re using the correct amount of sunscreen. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, adults need at least one ounce to cover their entire body.

Sunscreen lotions must also be fully absorbed into the skin, so thoroughly rub in the sunscreen lotion until you can no longer see it on your skin. Be sure to also apply a specially-formulated face sunscreen and SPF lip balm to protect the more sensitive areas of skin on your face. And don’t forget to apply sunscreen on those overlooked spots like the tops of the feet, back of the hands, along the hairline, and even on your scalp.

The best way to ensure full coverage is to apply sunscreen lotion before getting dressed for the day. This way, you know your skin is protected if your clothes shift or if you remove layers. Should you choose only to apply sunscreen on exposed areas, be sure to apply at least 15 minutes before you head out the door. This will allow the sunscreen to fully absorb into your skin prior to sun exposure.

Step 3: Reapply, Reapply, Reapply!

Additionally, always remember that you need to reapply your sunscreen at least every two hours for continuous protection. After extensive sweating, swimming, or toweling off, your sunscreen should be reapplied immediately!

To help protect your children from the sun’s rays, use a gentle but effective kid’s sunscreen, and be careful to cover often neglected areas, such as behind the neck, tops of ears, and underneath any bathing suit straps.

WHY YOU NEED IT

Two types of rays can damage our skin. UVB rays are the sun’s rays that are responsible for giving us painful sunburns and causing most forms of skin cancer over time. UVA rays are the sun’s rays that lead to the unwanted early aging of our skin.

UVA rays can be particularly dangerous as they can damage your skin in ways that you don’t often notice. They can easily penetrate through glass and even clouds on the most overcast days. Even if you only run an errand or two or work inside near a sunny window, you can still experience sun damage, which builds up over time.

Though their effects appear in different ways, all types of UV radiation can contribute to your risk of developing skin cancer, so Broad Spectrum SPF sunscreen should be a pillar of your daily skincare routine.

In addition to minimizing your risk of skin cancer, scientific studies have shown that people who use Broad Spectrum sunscreen daily experience less skin aging than people who only use sunscreen occasionally.

What are the consequences of inadequate sun protection? When you’re exposed to the sun, UV radiation targets your DNA. Your body can repair some damage on its own. However, the remaining damage can accumulate. This can cause your DNA cells to forget their normal functions. As a result, they may begin to mutate and replicate too quickly, which can lead to cancer.

Luckily, you can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma by 40 percent and your risk of melanoma by 50 percent when you use a Broad Spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 every day.

WHEN TO USE IT

Remembering to use sunscreen is easy when we are on vacation. Sunscreen is probably the first thing you pack in your beach bag, and if you forget, it’s your first purchase before you head to the beach. After all, no one wants a sunburn during a time that’s supposed to be filled with rest and relaxation. Even on recreational outings to the park or golf course, many people know they need to protect their skin. (Just be sure you’re following the Melanoma Research Foundation’s recommendation by using SPF 30 or higher.)

And remember, sunscreen shouldn’t become a skincare product you only use when you spend a day outdoors. It should be a pillar of your everyday routine. Even a short trip to the grocery store or a full day indoors by a window can impact your skin. By treating sun protection as a daily essential, similar to hydration and nutrition for your body, you can reduce the cumulative effects of UV exposure.

Make putting on Panama Jack SPF sunscreen lotion a part of your everyday morning routine, just like brushing your teeth. Applying sunscreen daily helps reduce signs of aging and sun damage when used with other recommended sun protection methods:

Wear UPF-rated clothing. Panama Jack performance short and long sleeve shirts carry a UPF 35+ rating, meaning less than 3% of UV radiation is allowed to pass through.

Wear proper headwear, such as wide-brimmed, UPF-rated hats, which are particularly useful for getting extra protection on your face, ears, and neck.

Wear protective sunglasses. People often neglect sun protection for their eyes. To keep your eyes safe during a day in the sun, opt for sunglasses that offer 100% UVA/UVB protection.

One thing you can count on is that there’s no such thing as too much sun protection.
